Thanks for taking the time to read a little about The Turnaround!
What matters to us most is playing great music really well. Guess you could say our feel has one foot in the blues while the other flirts with funk, R&B and jazz. We love having a good time with our audience, whether they're on the dance floor or chatting and laughing with us between songs. We send them home with a smile on their face.
November 2020 we were very excited to “re brand the band” as “The Turnaround” and release our first full self titled album. 12 original tracks launched during our standout show at The Triffid in Brisbane. On air now across Australia and overseas! Listen to it here!
During 2018 lead vocalist, Donna Hourigan, had a stab at songwriting and we released our debut EP “Talk the Talk” as The Lucky Lips Band in April 2019. What a ride that was! We're thrilled to have reach #6 on the Australian Blues & Roots Charts and know that folks Australia wide listen to our original tunes; not to mention that the EP is on playlists through Europe & the USA! The single "Talk the Talk" made the semi finals of the International Songwriters Competition and the finals of the Australian Blues Music "CHAIN" awards! Not bad for a debut hey?!
2019 was a busy year for us with gigs at our fave Brissie' venues like: The Royal Mail Hotel; The Morrison Hotel; The Walrus Club and The Mount Gravatt Marketta. A huge response at 2019's Jazz & Jumpers in July festival garnered us an invite to play again in 2020. Our live experience is high energy! Just ask the crowd twisting and jiving in Brisbane's Queen Street Mall for 2019's International Blues Music Day festival.
Our playlist reads like a "Who's Who" of Blues and R&B music: get down n’ dirty with greats like Rufus Thomas, Susan Tedeschi, Robben Ford or Big Mamma Thornton. Get funky with R&B legends like The Temptations, Ruth Brown or Aretha Franklyn; the list goes on.
If you’re a fan of fun, high energy entertainment, and top quality musicianship…download our music and come to a gig...we'll show you a good time!
