The Turnaround is the second offering from singer-songwriter Donna Hourigan following the success of 2019s debut album Talk the Talk.
Produced by Joel Hourigan in the band’s home studio, this full album of eleven original tracks (with a bonus live recording) keeps one foot firmly in the blues while the other flirts with, funk, jazz, soul, rockabilly and vintage RnB.
Straight from the rough & tumble of life The Turnaround continues Hourigan’s love affair with the unvarnished truth. Lovingly crafted, the songs on this album celebrate what it means to be human; living with love, heartache and the current issues impacting our lives today. All underscored with compassion and that wry sense of humour established on the EP Talk the Talk.
Finding new ways to challenge her already passionate and powerful 3-octave vocal range, Hourigan’s voice rips into and then caresses her lyrics - from joyous and playful to raw and soulful. The bare bones of her stories have been beautifully fleshed out in stirring arrangements by members of The Turnaround band (formerly known as The Lucky Lips Band): Joel Hourigan on guitar (lead and rhythm) - Donna’s son and also sound engineer on this project - with musical instinct and ability usually found in someone much older. Darren Griffiths on bass - inventive, a natural at striving for originality. Percussion/Drums credits are shared by Liam Madden and Jasper Warmington. Bringing their very different styles to bear, contributing to a dynamic, original rhythm section.

Talk the Talk - a highly anticipated debut EP of original tunes.
Lead singer Donna Hourigan is a songwriter and story teller, drawing from the many genres experienced over her livemusic career.
Although influenced strongly by blues and traditional RnB music, these seven original tracks have a life of their own and each has a different story to tell. Some come from the fabric of Donna’s own life, while others are keen observations of those around her.
The bare bones of her stories have been beautifully fleshed out in stirring arrangements by The Lucky Lips Band: Guitarist John Lawson & Rob Gow on saxophone drive each other to great heights with duelling solos that are at once slick and soulful, dirty and energetic. Brothers in rhythm Dr G (Darren Griffiths) on Bass & the dynamic Chris Chirnside on drums lay down a solid foundation with innovative lines and imaginative musical flexibility.
This is an EP that has everyone talking!
